Spring Piston air rifles are among the most common type of air guns for beginner shooters. The spring piston is the simplest type of powerplant with respect to the parts used. These rifles don't require much effort to get them working and are very easy to maintain as opposed to other air rifles. In Spring piston rifles you compress a spring behind a piston and attach it to a latching mechanism which is connected to the rifle's trigger. When you pull the trigger, you release the latch and allow the spring to push the piston forward. This compresses the air in front of it which has no place to go other than the air transfer port between the chamber and the pellet. The air then pushes the pellet forward out of the barrel to escape.
